GAP can only be sold at the time of purchase when the financing is done through the Dealership. GAP cannot be sold on cars purchased with cash or outside financing.
Can GAP be written on commercial vehicles?
Yes. Allstate Dealer Services now offers a GAP program for commercial vehicles, subject to certain limitations. Contact your Agent for further details.
If a consumer refinances, does the GAP transfer to the new loan?
No, the GAP will automatically be voided and no coverage will be in effect in the event of a loss. In order to purchase GAP again, the Lender who is providing the refinancing will have to sell a new GAP waiver. The consumer cannot return to a Dealer to purchase GAP on the new loan.
How many days does a consumer have to report a GAP claim?
The consumer has 90 days from the Primary Insurance Carrier's settlement date to report a GAP claim.
When are GAP waivers rejected?
GAP waivers are rejected if they are:
- Submitted on incorrect forms/program
- Paid for with cash (GAP must be financed)
- Written for ineligible collateral (commercial vehicles, conversion vans or any type of after market customization, motorcycles, Daewoos, power sports, RVs and trailers)
- Missing loan dates
- Written in the State of Colorado and missing amount financed
- Written on a non-franchised form and missing amount financed
- Dealer does not have a valid contract with AHiS
*Other reject reasons can exist.
In the event that a waiver is rejected, the waiver and remittance amount is returned to the Dealer. The Dealer is liable for any claims if it does not terminate the contract with the customer.
Programs and coverages may vary by Dealer/Lender/State. Please refer to your GAP waiver/certificate/policy for details of the terms and condition of this coverage.
